This piece, my friends, is truly a wonderful thing…

Enjoy… and Merry Christmas!

Frank Kelly’s Christmas Countdown.

A simple slideshow to accompany the hilarious take on the Twelve Days of Christmas by Frank Kelly.

I don’t think you can buy this song anywhere anymore, but I’m making no money from this little vid, so no copyright infringements are meant.

Oh, pity the poor mother… as for the partridge, well…

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas… may your Holidays be wonderful… in every way!

Was it Donner, or was it Blitzen?

Peace and Love!

This has always struck me as being so sad for poor Mukhtar.

Wish I knew what the words mean.

Sigh.

Sorry I missed posting on the day of the death of Kim Jong-il. Just couldn’t come up with much to say. And… I still can’t.

We are not supposed to celebrate the death of a man, but this man has created horror beyond imagining, the ongoing deaths of millions of his own people and the most bizarre country on earth… the entirety of it is, quite literally, a prison. The “Hermit Kingdom,” they call it… for good reason.

To lighten the load a bit, the following is a little bit of humor. The first two images are from the Kim Jong-il Looking At Things website, which is where the title is derived from, obviously. I like it not only for the not-so-subtle humor regarding this unimaginably despicable man’s mental makeup, but also because, to me, it makes as a result a nice mockery of the ridiculous claims made throughout his rule by the propaganda department that he was responsible for every good thing that’s ever happened. A few of those claims can be found compiled in this post at al-Jazeera.

The next two are from the brand new website (made within hours of the announcement of the Dear Leader’s death), Kim Jong-un Looking At Things.

Seems a good representation of the future,
a future  that I feel does not bode well for the people of North Korea.

I don’t like the look in this kid’s eyes. Like father, like son, as they say. Not a lot is known of him, but he is usually portrayed as a nutcase. Quite likely. Some quietly hope that his Swiss boarding school education will soften any ruthlessness. I doubt that. Some say that since he was catapulted overnight from civilian to 4 star general, the military will not play nicely with him. I doubt that, too.

Because in the North Korean culture, just like his father and grandfather, this kid is now God.

All we can do is…

Pray for the people of North Korea.

Peace.

It’s time once again for a little musical interlude, this one from my hero, Mister Peter Green…

Sit back, relax and enjoy!

The title track from the excellent album that relaunched the career of the ex-leader of Fleetwood Mac. Magic.

I will forever remain so very glad that Peter was able to fight through the decades-long trauma that was the result of whatever those sick, twisted, evil German bastards, whoever they were, (and they had seriously better pray that I never find out), inflicted upon this great man on those fateful nights way back when.

He survived the horror and brings to us once again the genius that thrives within him.

Why anyone would want to destroy a young man of such rarefied talent will always be incomprehensible to me. Pure evil usually is that, I guess. We can only imagine the wonderful blues that could have filled that eternity of years.

Thank God they failed… Peter’s still with us! And I, for one, am grateful. As if you couldn’t tell. :D

If anything, his music has become even more beautiful, lyrical and serene.

Thanks be to the cosmos!

Well, I seem to getting all repetitive, so…

Peace to you.

Define Necessity.

It is my feeling that this composite photograph perfectly illustrates exactly what is wrong with the United States. Very likely other places, too, but I cannot say that with certainty, for I live here… and for here… that thought is what comes to my mind.

On the left, we see the result of political and corporate greed, as well as the result of our foreign “aid” programs. We see human beings. Human beings with the look of hunger, the look of desperation, hopelessness and despair.

On the right, we also see the result of political and corporate greed. Just at the opposite end of greed’s spectrum. We see zombies. We see debt slaves. We see utter fools. The look of desperation is there, too, desperation of a different sort.

Look at them. Clamoring about like gerbils on crack, spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on cheap Chinese crap that will be thrown away as useless detritus within the year when it falls apart. Awful.

No thoughts roiling around in their vacuous ether of giving some of their wealth to the people on the left. No. Oh, maybe a very few will if they get some plea in the mail, (none of which would likely end up in the left side’s bellies anyway); but that episode will be quickly forgotten.

They’ve been trained, you see, trained all their lives, to be consumers, passive yet eager to please slaves, trained to live their lives toiling for the sole purpose of enriching the producers of their desired objects. It’s like a religion. So perhaps it is not entirely their fault, but at the same time, perhaps it is their fault that they have so little compassion for anything outside of their little pleasure bubble. It is a tragedy. And so it goes as well for the entirety of the socioeconomic system created to support it.

Creepy.

This, I posit, is what is wrong.

Giant Weta.

Rather large, this cricket, eh? … Or, this weta, to be precise.

This thing weighs more than a sparrow, three times more than a mouse… and eats carrots, whole ones I bet.

While not exactly cryptozoology as wetas are already well known, it was not, it seems, known that they get this big.

This story has been all over the net and I am willing to bet that you have seen this story in the last few days. Sorry if you have, this is for those who have not clapped eyes on this ginormous bugger. I saw it a couple of days ago and naturally am just getting a round tuit here.

I do dig large critters of any stripe, (my good friend Willy will surely attest to my twisted fear of stepping out of my time machine (Oh, Jeez, I wasn’t supposed to mention that thing) only to come face to face with a 9-foot eurypterid… (they had those back then, you know)… frikken shivers, man…) crickets included, so here we go…

From the Daily Mail:

A nature-lover has revealed how he spent two days tracking down a giant insect on a remote New Zealand island – and got it to eat a carrot out of his hand.

Mark Moffett’s find is the world’s biggest insect in terms of weight, which at 71g is heavier than a sparrow and three times that of a mouse.

The 53-year-old former park ranger discovered the giant weta up a tree and his real life Bug’s Bunny has now been declared the largest ever found.

He came across the cricket-like creature, which has a wing span of seven inches, after two days of searching on a tiny island.

The creepy crawly is only found on Little Barrier Island, in New Zealand, although there are 70 other types of smaller weta found throughout the country.

World's heaviest insect.

Just look at this thing! Fantastic!

You can learn even more about this fella by reading this discussion thread. I wonder if it is omnivorous… yeesh… nah, couldn’t be…

Peace.

Okay, I could not resist adding this… from the inimitable davespanners…

Snowmen everywhere are in big trouble.

This is bad news for snowmen everywhere

Beagle Freedom Project – Second Rescue – June 8, 2011

Please note that watching this video will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, having tissues handy is recommended for many… reading the information that follows, however, will likely get you feeling depressed and angry. But you should do it anyway.

Our second rescue from beagles who have lived their entire lives inside a research laboratory. These beagles have known nothing except the confines of metal cages. They have known no soft human touch, no warm bed, no companionship, no love. They have never been outside or sniffed a tree or grass.

Finally, after years of being poked and prodded, these beagles are FREE! ARME got the call that a facility was willing to release them to us after they had been used in several tests. We picked them up on June 8th and now they are all in loving foster homes, and one has already been adopted. If you are interested in adopting any of these special beagles, please email us at: shannon@beaglefreedomproject.org.

If you cannot adopt, but would like to help, ARME is a non-profit organization and we rely on your donations to continue this work. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. You can donate here: http://www.beaglefreedomproject.org/donate.php

PLEASE DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS TESTED ON ANIMALS! You can see their faces now….. buy only products that have the cruelty-free symbol.

This was first noticed at this site by The Old American, the poster I learned of it from, which happened here.
Gridrebel added this to the discussion:

If one were to go to the www.thevegetariansite.com… which is listed in the “companies that still test on animals” tab, you would find this:

Many manufacturers of personal care and household items still test their products on animals, despite the growing number of alternative methods for evaluating product safety. The following list contains all such companies known and their associated brand names. This list originally was compiled from two primary references (cited at the bottom of this page). In addition, it is updated as new information is made available to us. We cannot fully guarantee its accuracy, so please use the list accordingly–and do let us know if you can offer any further updates. You may wish to print out the list and take it along next time you go shopping! Please also note that all over-the-counter medicines and/or their ingredients are extensively tested on animals, as currently required by the FDA.

Obviously, many many non-pharmaceutical companies in the above list. Lots of cosmetics though. Mop-n-glo????? Pledge?????? What else could they be testing in these products, since they HAVE BEEN TESTING those ingredients for years. The ingredients haven’t changed. If Triethanolamine for instance is dangerous, what difference does it make if it’s in one or a thousand products. Why keep testing the same products over and over again? Freakin disgusting!

That is quite an impressive and depressing list, wouldn’t you say? Damn. I find the note “as currently required by the FDA” not too reassuring. Despite the disclaimer regarding it’s complete accuracy, it is nonetheless comprehensive enough that it would appear on the surface to be rather difficult at best to avoid availing oneself of the products of at least some of these firms. This should not, however, prevent us all from trying our best at finding friendly products through research of course. Help in this matter is welcome, please post what you find as comments.

Remember… as Burgo1010 has informed us… “if it does not say on your shampoo, bleach, etc., “not tested on animals” then… it is.”

Peace.
